Yahoo "Withdraw from Korea".. Eventually in 15 years, 'white flag'

Yahoo portal agreed with withdrew from Korea in 15 years. No. 1 domestic portal Yahoo who also opened ‘.com’ culture in the late 1990s, but they was sent off lonely Because of failed localization to native portal Naver, Daum etc.

Oct 19th. Yahoo made a public statement about termination to Korea business at end of this year. Yahoo said, "Since its launch in Korea, has faced challenges over the past few years," and, "We think a global market focus is needed in order to improve business performance and long-term success, decided to withdraw," they added.

Yahoo dominate the search market since it first entered the Korean market in 1997, and reigned as the nation's largest portal site until the early 2000s. But Yahoo started on the downward path because of Naver and Daum power. Besides Yahoo was reserved to Google that the late runner and US-based like Yahoo. Level of 0.1 to 0.2 percent share of the search market, Yahoo on the market already has forgotten the existence.

Currently, Yahoo is facing a crisis of survival in the United States. Yahoo is seeking a resurgence among sweeping plan through business restructuring to the first half of this year. To withdraw from Korea can be interpreted as part of the reorganization of the global business.

When Netizens used Yahoo search system at the time of the Korean market, if you enter the search terms, enter them as a sub-folder that contains the information you are looking for way to 'directory'. But When you enter your search terms in Naver, you can show all kinds of information, news, blog, cafe, and even advertising. It’s a ‘integrated approach to search’. So Yahoo users was absorbed by Naver quickly.

When the Naver’s approach proved successful, Yahoo should have hurried to change the approach. but They have taken traditional. There was no effort to adapt to the local culture, and rapid decision-making.

Yahoo e-mail service even was crowded out the representative service such as Hanmail, cafes in Duam, Cyworld Mini homepage, Naver Blog. but Yahoo failed to dig new content services.

The decision to withdraw as Yahoo Korea site is only open until the end of the year, since then the Yahoo site will connect to the United States sites. Also available as an email account that uses the domestic netizens, but it’s unclear that It will be according to plan well.
