Also their mother, died 13 years ago, believed his the eldest son was living somewhere, so she was looking for fortune-tellers across the country to ask her son’s birth and death until she received the news of his death. Jung-ho said, when he remembered of his mother, he felt his heart would break because his mother had died with not known what the eldest son was alive.

Jung-ho asked how he went to North Korea, but he just answered that after discharged from military, he had gone to there, but entered to college, married and has been healthy.

He pointed out that 47millon Americans are living without any insurance, and if members of Congress do nothing to change this system, more Americans are sick and not able to have the benefit of health care, when they are urgent. As a result, more people will die.

Moreover, he explained the aim of health care reform that is to increase the quality of insurance by competing, but not to restrict the benefit of insurance that has existed, targeting insurance companies that have rejected the people who get in trouble.

Drug smuggler in coma after heroin-condoms burst

I found an interesting, but extremely dangerous article. This article says that one guy was unconscious because he swallowed a condom smuggling heroin. I am just curious how he swallowed them and how he was going to do to take them out of his body. Ewww, I don't even want to think about that.

The gang filled condoms with heroin, swallowed them and then attempted to smuggle the drugs, but was caught and arrested. It was discovered that one of them almost died because the condom burst while he was taking it out.

Woo, a 23-year-old, went to Bangkok, Thailand with three other people including Park, a 25-year-old, to make money by smuggling heroin. After they took 249 heroin condoms (total 1.3kg) from a Taiwan supplier, they swallowed the condoms or inserted into their rectums.

It was a life risking adventure. Yoon, a 22-year-old, who swallowed 114 heroin condoms (590g) arrived in Taiwan. The condom burst in his stomach while he was taking them out and he fell into a coma. Yoon was taken to the hospital, was arrested due to the doctor reporting the X-ray to the police.

Another 21-year-old, Kim, had 94 heroin condoms (490g) in his stomach, lost contact in Bangkok and his fate is unknown. Woo and Park finished moving successfully but they were arrested on their return to Korea.

According to Seoul Central Prosecutor’s Office Drug Crime Investigation (Chief Prosecutor Youngjin Kim) announced that Woo and Park were charged with smuggling 442 million won worth of heroin. Prosecutors said that they are on the track of Kim, who is still at large. They interrogated Woo on how he was hired to work for the Taiwanese drug dealer.

A prosecutor said that the smugglers involved in the case were living on state subsidies. “It is shocking that they smuggled drugs for about only 1.5 million won to 5.3 million won each person,” he added.

Psychology of ‘59seconds’ Practical in Real Life

The First Prize Song of the Campus Music Festival, Plagiarism?

The first prize song of the Campus Music Festival has drawn suspicion that it was copied from Korean singer's song.

Last September 25, the 33th MBC Campus Music Festival(MBC대학가요제) took place at Incheon University. Alex and Hyori Lee acted as MCs, who are famous singers in Korea. There were many judges including composers, musicians, and a producer and some singers who performed to celebrate opening of the festival. 13 teams could go into the finals and had performances on the day.

After they had a keen competition, Ewha Woman’s University team was awarded the first prize at the contest. This team is composed of two women, one is vocal who composed and wrote a song, another is pianist. They were so thrilled that shed tears constantly.

The title of the first prize song is "군계무학". It stemmed from "군계일학", which means the sun among inferior lights. The vocal said, "In these days, many people in their twenties can't show their individuality because they are facing the worst job markets. Thus, I make the music "군계무학" which means there is no outstanding figure." She criticized the youth without individuality in this song. Here are some lyrics of the song.

They also were awarded the special prize.

However, unfortunately, some netizens are arguing that the song was copied from Korean singer Leessang's "A clown". All participants passed the numerous preliminary contests and there were a lot of judges who are present musicians. Also, the proceedings of the marking were made public. In the course of screening, there was no suspicion of plagiarism, so producers of this festival are being upset by the doubt.

A music program producer said that there can be similar atmosphere music and felt sorry for the reality that many people easily made a plagiarism suspicion to songs paid attention.

On the other hand, a manager of Leessang said, "We are now in America for performance, we couldn't see the festival. So we can't say about the problem yet."

We need to watch the problem continuously. I hope that this suspicion is not true.

Ohno Became “Pro-Korean” ?

Ohno ran on the ice rink on September 25. He lead his team to semi-final of men's 1500m relay.

Assembly becomes a bad joke

The South Korean National Assembly has become the laughingstock of the world. To all appearances, we are an uncivilized nation because it has no idea what democracy and majority rule are all about. The BBC, The New York Times and the Wall Street Journal have all covered South Korean politicians engaging in fist fights.

The central cause of this problem is neglect of the democratic process. Legislators were blocked from entering the Assembly. Outside organizations broke into the National Assembly. Legislators who were present were physically impeded from voting on bills. In light of this disgrace, for anyone to question the legality of the bills passage is ludicrous.

Democratic Party members say they will step down from their legislative seats and fight from outside the Assembly. The National Assembly speaker should agree. Even within the party, there are opposing voices that urge against any political circus. The Grand National Party plans to form a task force on the National Assembly to study ways to prevent the disruption of the legislature. But no task force can guarantee that.

The brawl at the National Assembly wasn't due to the lack of a system. Answers can be easily found in the foreign media s coverage. In its editorial yesterday, the Wall Street Journal wrote that Korea s focus on political consensus has made it difficult for the ruling party to implement its platform over Democratic objections. To outsiders, majority rule is the logical choice. This time, consensus was emphasized more than was necessary.

At the root of democracy is majority rule. Respecting consensus is merely a noble trait of Korean politics that has been added. If we can make good use of it, we can compensate for flaws in parliamentary democracy. But we should never forget the basics and become the butt of jokes around the globe.

Excessive university’s application fee is another distinction.

As an early application to universities begins, many parents’ screaming gets loudly. If one pay for the fee to apply some universities, it’s over hundreds of thousands won easily. It is also easy to over more than one million won when they put four or five applications to universities as they feel nervous, so it is common that the poor reduce or waive their application opportunity. As a result, the heavy fee became a device discriminating many students even on the apply stage.


It is university that has the responsibility of this problem. Universities just care their own huge income from the application fee whereas the heavy burden of the parents who are hard to pay for the application fee is not their interest. To say, they don’t care about the publicity of education and the balance of society at all.


It is not the first time that the problems of universities’ enormous application fee have been suggested. Accordingly, many groups of parents have required for the universities to uncover where the money had been spent for. However, universities refused the request repeating that they had spent the money only for the university entrance and also persisting that the amount of the fee is not that large as it includes the depth interview which costs a lot on the early application. According to research reported by ‘한국소비자원’, though, some universities used the money to hold some tennis matches or to advertise themselves and very few universities returned the application fee when some students didn’t take the test.


The reason why ‘the Department of the Education Science Technology(교육과학기술부)’ started to find alternative plans in time was that the discuss related to the application fee was about to bomb. The Department of the Study(교과부) said that they will reveal the details of income and disbursement by amending the special law of the uncovering information regarding Education Institute at the end of this year. It is good to hear and I hope that the unreasonable application fee will be adjusted to a better one.


Nevertheless that is not enough because many companies don’t take any application fee when they hire new employees, rather most of them give appliers transportation fee. However, I wonder why universities charge the appliers for the money. It would be the greatest way to charge no money for them but if it is impossible, they have to take the least actual expense and find ways to exempt the application fee for the statue of the poor.

Last about the end of may, they composed with women from twenties to fifties and their children have settled in to this place. “열린여성센터” that opened at Yongsan-gu in April 2004 have new nest because social organization and private people contribute money to relieving women.

“houeseworming” that was opened at 7:00 pm,18 to express gratitude people who help to get a this nest.

Mrs. Soe, working at “열린복지” of social welfare organ and have consultation with homeless women, thought “I hope to make place where homeless women take a rest” So she opened shelter in nearby Seoul station. However they had trouble with heating bills.

Mrs soe held small classic concert, which was intended to raise funds. And community chest support 100 million won of Korea’ money. So they have new nest.

Women lived in this place are drive out of house because of home violence, poverty and mental disease.

This place gives mental and emotional support to women in need. But facilities for homeless women are insufficient. The home less people remains with anxiety and fear. They need everyone’s help.

A big star of Animation is dead

Japanese broadcasting institution broadcast 우스이요시토(臼井儀人, 51) who author of "Crayon Shin Chan" seemed that he is gone.

I never have read this book to tell the truth. However, I have heard a lot of good things about this book from my friends who already read this book. So, I could guess the reason of success of this book based on what I have heard.

First of all, the title is attractive. The Korean tend to be choked with sorrow by just hearing the word 'Mom' because Mom is the symbol of sacrifice for their children. So. this novel easily appeal to readers by dealing with inner and outer aspects of mother from start to end

The Second, trend and timing is good. As you know, nowaday, economics condition is not good. That is why, many people seem to want to be consoled by 'Mom'. So, this book have been stimulating reader to susceptibility.

The last, Author Shin strive to promote his book by steadily having a lecture, public reading and book review events all over the country for a long time. Even Shin is planning to meet foreign reader in 10 countries

The book is one of a good way to reach the world we didn't know. I believe this book serve as a momentum to break the ice in difficult situation of publishing world. I hope other books, which are loved from reader are also published like this book

"why did they work on the road when students were attending school?"

At about 7:40 AM, on 17th September, S girls-high school in Seongnamdong JungwonGu Seongnam, 2 students from the school got crashed by a dump truck on the road in front of their school. Owing to this accident, one girl died instantly, and the other got badly injured.

The cause of the accident is presumed to be the defect of the brake device of a dump truck which was moving dirt from the cafeteria construction area of S girls-high school. The police looked into the exact cause of the accident through the truck driver and witnesses.

Meanwhile, the netizens are demanding the school for an explanation as to why they carried out construction work when students were attending school. The accident named ‘S girls-high school student’s accident’ took the 1st ranking in some portal sites that day, and it still ranks as one of the top issues an one portal site at this time, two days after the crash. Many candidates are frustrated by upcoming changes to teacher certification process and say, “This is my last attempt.” Competition to fill limited space of teachers is fiercer each year.


While waiting for the announcement about the new changes to the examination for Seoul secondary schools teacher in 2010, Mr. Park (28), who graduated from a postgraduate school of education in 2007, feels anxious.
Mr. Park, who has tried for many years to be a math teacher, is considering this year his final shot not only because every year competition has become fiercer but also because of the way selection is changing.



Mr. Park who attends a teacher preparatory academy in Noryangjin, in Seoul, after failing the test last year, says with a deep sigh, “Becoming a teacher is getting harder and harder.”
The gate to becoming a teacher is getting narrower and narrower like the eye of a needle.
Partly, the problem is the decrease in the number of students nationawide, so new teacher appointment is becoming smaller too.
To be matters worse, beginning next year, the way of the teacher appointment will change again. Therefore, the candidates are hanging their heads in despair and anxiety.


Norangjin in Seoul is a town where a lot of teacher examination prep academics are swarmed.

The competitive ratio of the examination for the appointment of middle school teachers, for example, was only 3.7 to 1 (candidate to appointees) in 2002, but hit a record high last year at 26.1 to 1, increasing sharply as follows: 7 to 1 by 2003, 10.7 to 1 by 2004, and 15.3 to 1 in 2005.
The appointment of elementary school teachers has also seen fiercer competition, from 0.91 to 1 in 2003 to 1.89 to 1 in 2009.



A person familiar with the Ministry of education and science and Technology said, “The competition ratio is higher because of a recent freeze in the hiring of teaching staff nationwide.” They are considering various programs to lower the competition rate, such as by merging or even abolishing certain education universities, or lowering the limit on the number of education colleges.

Teacher appointment exam is getting harder to pass. New teacher appointment becomes smaller because the number of applicants exceeds the limit but the number of students lessens. To make matters worse, applicants are ready to cry because the way of teacher appointment changes again next year.

On August 18, Academies related to the exam gather together around Noryangjin. Academy's notices like "This is last time","A shortcut to pass the exam" are likely to find. A class that arranges teaching presentation is already made. Kim (23, Female) who is a student at college of education, K University in Seoul said that Test of being teacher often changes so it's difficult to adapt myself.

It is also a burden for applicants to intensify teaching presentation next year. An existing 3 stage of Test of being teacher that comes into effect last year changes again before the system is fixed. The person concerned said that it's excessive burden for applicants to require practical experience like teaching ability.

Competitive rate of a secondary school teacher appointment exam in Seoul was only 3.7:1 in 2002 but the rate had sharply raised 7.1:1 in 2003, 10.7:1 in 2004, 15.3:1 in 2005. In addition the rate recorded 26.1:1 last year. A national elementary school teacher employment that guaranteed appointment as a teacher become higher from 0.91:1 in 2003 to 1.89:1 in 2009.

A person related to Ministry of Education, Science and Technology(교육과학기술부=교과부) said that recently the number of teachers is fixed and competitive rate become higher. A hungry polar bear sleeping in a construction site

a polar bear builds a nest in a construction site because there is no feed in a glacier.

The sun, a popular magazine in English, reported on september 18 that a polar bear is begging feed in a cunstruction site, north of Russia.

General polar bears usually hunt seals and often attack human but this bear isn't.

Laborers said that this male bear picked up and ate cans that laborers throwed away last year but now he settles here.

The hungry bear came down to the city to look for feed in order to avoid threat of poaching when feeds became shortage under the influence of global warming.

Generally bears have to accumulate nutritive elements by hunting in order to hibernate but he spends a day while looking for junk around construction site with laborer to eat.

The laborer say that although the bear is popular to people because of his docility, they will send him to nature before too late.

One laborer said "I become attached to him but he is a fierce animal. Therefore he have to go back nature." Also he said that not a polar bear is arctic symbol but is arctic tragedy.

Recently, thanks to CCTV, the criminal who attempted to take armored truck in Jongno, Seoul has arrested. The man who stole Choi Jinsil(최진실)’s urn also has caught by using CCTV.

CCTV which is set on streets, outer walls of buildings, side streets, offices and elevators puts a record of people who walk along there. CCTV is not the only one recording. It is surly recorded where you get on and off the bus or subway, when, where you go online, who do you talk on the phone with.

How much my records will have recorded from going to the office to leaving the office, get back to home then go to bed? Mr. A, who is a staff at National Human Rights Commission of Korea had examined his own daily “trace”. It is perfect enough so that it is able to reconstruct at interval of minute from as soon as he leaves home to get back to home.

Mr. A lives by himself for job. He travels from Gwangju which is his main house to Seoul on every Monday. On Monday 4 : 35 in the morning, his ‘track’ started to remain, calling a taxi by using cell phone. His face is taken as a picture in front of elevator and apartment complex, when he leaves home. Also, when he arrived at Gwangju station to take a train, his figure was remained on CCTV that is located in a gateway.

While he got off the Yongsan station, transfer to subway to go to City hall, and then he went into the office, his records was remained everywhere. After he arrived at the office and then when he accessed administration network and log on messenger or portal site, logon information was recorded. His own information has been recorded by CCTV about 200 times and his credit card number put record at 7-8 places until he went back to home.

The meantime, this kind of records has been kept in storage device independently, and it almost has been deleted when some periods has passed. CCTV images are digitized, however, it has been changing for storages devices to possible to access throughout network. Technology has developed that analyze CCTV images which put recorded at several places and then find some so that be able to reconstruct how to he or she has moved in every hour.

Personal records remained in everywhere of daily life are useful when we seize a criminal or find missing children. The problem is when we abuse it, it could be suppress a fact or be distort information beyond violation of human rights. Situation could be occurred such as the movie, Enemy Of The state, in reality. In this movie, there is a scene that information agency which killed a member of Congress for political reasons manipulates some records like CCTV images and push a citizen who has a storage device that recorded about the crime to a cliff to suppress a crime fact.
