On twelfth(local time), The Novel Committee in Norway announced that the European Union(EU) was selected as the winner of the novel prize for peace 2012.
The EU was acknowledged the role of intergrating their divided countries in europe area though suffering from the financial crisis departed from Greece. The Norwegian Novel Prize for Peace Committee announced that the EU has been contributed to the development of peace, reconciliation, democracy and human rights for 60years.
The novel prize winner will get the medal and prize money about 8million swedish krona(about 13 hundred million won)
The EU is the union, which is consisted of 27member countries in europe. It was established in 1993 November first by the Masstricht Treaty. The EU was formerly alliance of the European Coal and Steal Community(ECSC) which was started from 6countries(France, German, Italy, Belgium, Netherlands and Luxembourg) and the European Economic Community(EEC) which was started from the Treaty of Rome in 1957.
To give the Novel prize to survive individual is the principle, but the novel prize for peace can be presented to the organization or group. Until now, The International Organization, The Non-Government Organization and individuals were prized but it's the first time to give the prize to the Local Community.
"But, considering the present situation of the worst financial crisis in Eurozone and the conflict between German, Greece and the others, some people doubted about the receiving of the novel prize to EU" The New York Times(NYT) delivered.
The german demanded the performance of the intensive tight fiscal policy to the greece on fair terms for the relief loan. During the visiting of german minister "Angela Merkel" earlier in this month, Thousands of greek civilization protested about the strict economy proposal.
Torviern Yaglan, the chairman of The Novel Committee, explained that the present of the novel prize for peace to the EU was the spuring signal of the effort to integrate the Europe and about the role of EU in reconciling between the france and german after the world war 2.
Jean Sharp(america peace activist and political scientist), Aleksander Belyski(democratization activist of Belarus), Thein Sein(the president of myanmar, who is propelling the democratization of his country), Maggie Govran(the poor relief activist) and Svetlana Ganusyukina(russian human right activist) were named as the strong candidate of the Novel prize for peace 2012.
Last year, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf(the president of Liberia), Reamer Bowie(Liberian peace activist) and Tau Wakkul Karman(the woman right activist in yemen) awarded the prize jointly.
In korea, the president Kim Dae Joong awarded the prize because of his effort for "The Inter-Korean Summit 6.15" in 2000.
