The japanese court turned down Samsung Electronics’ request on injunction against sales of iPhone.


Accoding to Asahi news on 29th, the Japanese Court turned down Samsung Electronics’ request on injunction against sales of iPhone.
 

The district court of Tokyo ruled that there was no infringement of patent by Apple on regards to two consecutive injunction requests on sales of iPhone 4 and iPhone 4s made by Samsung Electronics.
Samsung Electronics had two different patents on a method of downloading application and the airplane mode in Japan.

The court ruled that the application downloading method of iPhone was different from the patent of Samsung Electronics.
Considering the fact that the notion of the airplane mode of Samsung Electronics can easily be devised, the court also ruled the patent itself is invalid.
Samsung Electronics also requested an injunction on sales of iPhone 4, iPhone 4s and iPad, claiming three patents of user interface had been infringed. These patents include patentsof the indication of airplane mode icon, categorized application store, and user-centered home screen space use.
Apple filed a lawsuit for compensation for damage against Samsung Electronics in a patent case, requesting one hundred million Yen. The regional court of Tokyo turn down Apple on 31st of August.

  1. I'm glad they did. Too many silly patents at issue. While I do think that Samsung copied a lot of the iphone design, I think it was just a natural evolution of the form. Compete on quality and service.
