There may be blue and better blue. Psy is a kind of person talented in music. He gave a free concert at Seoul Plaza in front of City Hall at 10 o'clock on October 4th, drawing about 80000 audiences. The concert ended with an encore of “Gangnam Style,” and Psy bares his chest as promise. Although “Gangnam Style” didn't hit No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, he is still a champion.
On this day, the roads near City Hall and nearby shops were fully packed with Psy's fans. It's the first time that a popular singer give his exclusive concert at Seoul Plaza. The heat scene was associated with the 2002 Korean-Japanese World Cup. About 700 journalists from home and abroad like NBC, Reuters, AFP, competed to cover the event.
Before the show, audiences sang Korean national anthem together with accompaniment. After that, the stage was opened with "Right now" sung by Psy. “I knew one day someone big would come out of Korea,” he said. “I just never thought it would be me.”
Psy sang songs one after the other such as "Shake it", "bird", "This is who I am", "Father", "We are the one", "Paradise", "Everybody" and so on. And he took time between each song to thank his fans for their support. Audiences jumped with him like a high wave and the exploding fireworks made the atmosphere even higher.
Psy said emotionally, "The Seoul Plaza has special meaning to me. I was inspired by cheering the 2002 World Cup and wrote 'Champion', 'We are the one'(2006). It's hard to believe that people gather together for one same purpose and singer gives his exclusive show on the stage. Although I didn't get the No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, I still very thank you for preparing this exciting stage for me."
"It's necessary for me to release the next song after 'Gangnam Style' at the middle of November. I was asked for many times if I am worried about it because of the higher expectation. I want to say that please wait it in hope continually. I will do my best to meet your expectations."
Psy choked up and said, "My life as a singer wasn't going smoothly, so I usually took every show as my last chance. I don't think I'd done something good. I want to thank everyone again for your support on this stage."
As the concert drew to a close, Psy was excited to down half bottle of soju and even sprayed it to the fans. At the thought of children came with their parents, he warned minors as premise that “drinking is a filthy habit that you should, if possible, not even start”. But even that there were arguments on the internet about his drinking performance.
Before 8 p.m. people gathered by twos and threes at Seoul Plaza. When office workers left office at 6 p.m., Seoul Plaza was already clogged with people. Not only young fans in their teens and 20s, but also people in their 10s and 60s flocked to see the concert. Families and lots of foreigners were there too. Office worker Mr. Park and his wife with their children at three and five age in a buggy came to the show too. Mr. Park said, "My kids saw the horse dance on TV and like it very much. So I brought them here to dance it directly. Psy is a cultural hero and a leader in Korean comedy."
With the cooperation of Seoul city, private cars were banned from the City Council of Seoul to Deoksugung Palace temporarily. The center of Seoul become the stage for one person.
