'Don't ask crime' occured in an elementary school

A high school dropout with depression illness trespassed an elementary school … swung the entrenching shovel and 6 students were injured. The criminal said “My original plan was going to national Assembly.”
This is the first accident that mental disease patient trespassed the school. “There is no safe school in our country, as the private school which has a thorough security was broken in.”

" Even if I succeed sometime after trying hard, I have something that I could never change.
I will not excuse myself to everyone because I will do this even if I know I should not do this.
Please don’t hold a funeral but just take care of other bodies."
In the note of "a high school dropout, who was identified as Kim (18 years old) swung the deadly weapons in elementary school, he wrote “I know I should not do this, but I am going to do this(crime).”

The incident occurred that a high school dropout who has depression illness trespassed in an elementary classroom and swung the deadly weapon and consequently, 6 students were injured.

Even though there were frequent cases in the US and Japan that the outsides broke into a school and commit ‘Don’t Ask Crime’ (to commit a crime without reason), there was no such incident in Korea. As the common idea which the school is safe against ‘Don’t Ask Crime’ was broken, the assertion was brought up that “the entire school safety system should be checked again.”

Seoul Bangbae police station caught Kim and is now investigating his suspicion of the crime that he trespassed Gyesung elementary school last 28th and swung the entrenching shovel and simulated BB bullet handgun and hurt the students.

Around 11:50 am of 28th, Kim broke into the classroom of Sarang-ban, 4th grade and swung the deadly weapons to the students who were doing a class meeting, and consequently gave serious an slight injuries to 3 male and 3 female students.
At the police investigation, Kim made statements that he originally will kill a member of national Assembly but he gave up because the security was too tight and he thought he couldn’t deal with it alone, but instead, while he was searching elementary schools near the subway station, he chose Gyesung elementary school near Shin-Banpo station where he thought rich people live.

Gyesung elementary school where the accident occurred is a traditional private school which was led by the catholic foundation and its prevention level of students’ security is relatively high. At that day, two learning places guards and one private security were guarding the school as usual. There is a saying that “if the security of this level of school has a hole, there will be no school to go with confidence.

In foreign countries, these ‘don’t ask crime’ against the young students occur frequently.

In 2001 June in Japan, a terrible incident happened that one unemployed person, Takuma Mamoru (37 years old at that time) had drugs and in the hallucinosis, he trespassed in the Ikeda elementary school which is affiliated elementary school of Osaka College of Education and swung deadly weapons and killed 8 first and second grade students and gave serious and slight injuries to 15 people including 3 teachers.
The criminal asserted that he was suffering schizophrenia but the fact was revealed that he pretended to be an insane person to avoid punishments according to the police investigation results.

In 1996 March in the UK, unemployed person Thomas Hamilton (43 years old at that time) also broke into an elementary school in a small city of Dunblane with 4 handguns and he killed 16 children and one adult and subsequently he committed suicide.
After this incident, the prohibition law of carrying a handgun has passed.
Additionally in 2010 April in China, one unemployed person trespassed into a kindergarten and gave serious and slight injuries to 28 kindergarten students and 3 adults.

Something in common in this “Don’t Ask Crime” are that the people who are lack of social adaptation capability and anger control capability are breaking into the space where the weak people gather and acting violence unilaterally.

Spokesperson of Korea Federation of Teacher’s Associations, Kim dong-suck mentioned that “As the society becomes the nuclearization of the family, these dangerous people are more likely to increase” and “our educational institutes were just ‘remaining a mere spectator about the foreign cases but they didn’t prepare for any preparation.”
Since Kim soo-chul trespassed an elementary school in Yungdeungpo, Seoul and kidnapped a student and made sexual violence, central and local government started to place learning places guards and school sheriffs.
Currently in 590 elementary schools in Seoul area, 2 learning place guards and school sheriffs are placed in every elementary school. Some private elementary schools hire additional security guards. However, this accident shows again that the school is not a safe zone.

Spokesperson, Kim dong-suck said that “Also in Japan, after the “don’t ask crime occurred by the patients who had mental illness, ‘advance reservation policy for visiting school’ was introduced and various countermeasures were prepared including the installation of exterior CCTV”, and “in order to protect the student who is a weak person, school safety securing system should be completely discussed again toward the direction to increase the security level for the students which is thought to be excessively high.”

  1. I'm impressed with how much you wrote here. I'm sad to tell you that you didn't have to. I asked for a summary this time, not a translation/paraphrasing. I think that a summary would have been easier.

A couple comments on your story. First, I think the expression you are looking for is "a high school dropout" to refer to the assailant.

"Accident" is used to refer to something that happens without intention. In a situation like this, it is certainly not the right word to use. "Incident" could be a good word in this case. Incident doesn't necessarily mean that it was purposely done, but it is often used in this way.

  3. Professor, Thank you for your comment:) I have corrected errors you pointed out.

    I'm sorry about my mistake.
I wanted to be sure about homework, and checked "Korean news translation".

And, I read "Your posting can be a direct translation of the Korean news article.", so I did.. T.T

    I'm so sorry..Can I resubmit this homework?

  4. There's no reason to resubmit. I gave you full credit.

I announced in class how my expectations differed for this particular assignment, but I should have written it down. Most people did a direct translation.
