Ludmila Ulitskaya, awarded The Second Park Gyung Lee literary award, said her feeling on email interview. Although she debuted at 40 late novelist,
she represents modern russian literature. She also issued to take Mikhail Khodorkovsky's side, an oil giant, who is political oppent of Vladimir Putin, russian present. Ulitskaya will attend award ceremony next 25th and other occations in korea.
-You are the first foreign novelist receiving Park Gyung Lee literary award.
"I think the world are being small. The western and eastern are getting closer. This korean literary award shows that."
-Have you ever read Park's work?
"I read parts of the daughters of Kim Parmacy translated in russian. It is very moving. Especially, the description of coastal city Tongyoung and there people is the most. It is similar with my work 'Medea and her children. But I can not write such a epci novel like Park forever."
-Soyna is impressive in your work 'Sonechika'. She endured betray family history
"Soyna took pain of war, poverty before and after war and was hurt by husband affair, but love to him didn't change. She accepted his young concubine to family.
I think it is the victory of generosity. I evaluate russian women high."
-Why did you write 'M Talk with Khodorkovsky', letter writing with Khodorkovsky in prison.
"I thought it was the oppurtunity to tell his opinion about government, power and economy. It is very important to one in prison.
-Did you feel any suppression?
"No. There isn't any political one in my works. I'm interested in internal freedom of human than relationship between indivisual and nation."
-Once you said "my novels are finding meaning of lost family.....
"Russia has traditional family problem like teaching children. I never thouht the Soviet Union is ideal, but in that age, good education was possible. These days university entrance examination corruptions are wide spreaded, It would not help our society."
-Some of your works like Russian Marmalade had played on stage in korea.
"No, I don't know at all. I want to see it."
-If you have, what do you want to say to korean readers?
"I'm very glad to receive this high level korean literary award. Thanks to all judges, readers and others interested in my works. Our traditions are different, we have same mind."
