Military tried to cover up the truth about Korean soldier’s defection

According to an investigation team of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the formerannouncement of an army unit about the situation of a North Korean soldier’s defection was fabricated. The army unit which was in charge of the eastern front in Gosung of Gangwon province(강원도 고성) once announced the solder was recorded on a surveillance camera on Oct. 2 and taken into custody. In fact, however, the surveillance camera did not work. When the soldier knocked on the door at the general outpost, South Korean soldiers on duty realized him for the first time. During a parliamentary audit on Monday, JCS Chairman Jung Seung-Jo admitted the military attempted to cover up the truth on the situation out of concerning about criticism on security of the eastern front.
