What if a brassiere turned into a mask? ‘Ig Nobel Prize’ in 2009

“Once you put on this brassiere mask, you can get to have an ability to cope with any dangerous situation whenever or wherever you are because almost everyone wears brassieres.”

Can you guess what ‘Urgent situation can be protected by a brassiere’ means? Yellena Bodner who won this year’s ‘Ig Nobel Prize’ in Public Health field has the answer of the above meaning. Yellana Bodner who is a Ukrainian Scientist invented a brassiere with Raffael Li and Sandra Merijern. It can be fold and works as a gas mask in a state of emergency.

Women who wear the mask ordinary times can use the mask when toxic gas is generated by a fire. Women can take advantage of the mask by following this. First, detach one of the parts of the brassiere and cover one’s mouth and noses with this. Next, fix the detached brassiere with a band of the brassiere then people manage to elude the crisis because a pad which is in the cup part of the brassiere works as a filter.
Women can save one more person by giving their boy friends or anyone who stands next the other part of the brassiere.

Dr. Bodner explained that when an atomic accident took place at the Chernobyl nuclear power station in 1986, there were not enough masks. Thus, many people suffered from a radioactive iodine poisoning phenomenon so the idea came across her mind by this accident.

The interesting idea of using underwear in case of an emergency shows us that some new scientific invention starts with the word- “it’s so funny!”

  1. I love the Ig Nobel prizes. They always have such funny examples, and this is no exception. What's next, underwear parachutes? :-)
