President Lee should show courage to face the pain we gave to Vietnam
President Lee is going to visit Vietnam on flowing October, 20th ~22nd. It will be the fifth visiting after Yungsam Kim(1997), Daejung Kim(1998), Muhyun Ro(2004.06) as the president of Korea.
Though they had Vietnam War, Korea and Vietnam have achieved rapid relation development in politic, economies and cultures since 1992 when a treaty was signed between the two countries.
There are about five hundred thousand people who came and went between two countries last year and it is up to 80,000~90,000 people who are living in the other’s country each. About 60~70 per cent of ninety thousand people in Vietnam enjoy Korean films and dramas. In addition, more than forty thousand Vietnam brides live in Korea, which show us how deep our relationship is. These two countries are going to raise up their relationship from comprehensive companion to strategic copartner by President Lee’s visiting.
This is a right direct selection for Vietnam is the center of the Association of Southeast Asia Nations. Moreover, they has a 3250km coastline which overlaps our petroleum transport routes as well as they are good patners checking the Chinese rush together.
However, something bad happened that Korea hurt Vietnamese proud right before this important summit. As the Ministry for Patriot and Veterans Affairs announced a revised bill about the honorable treatment for a man of merit of country, they described Vietnam war as an act contributed to the peace of the world. Hardly had Vietnam been repulsed by this when Myunghwan Yu, a foreign ministry , went there to make them calm down.
Pamtienvan, an ambassador of Vietnam in Korea, said “it’s true that Korea entered Vietnam War damaging to Vietnamese but they said nothing about it. If the revised bill described the war as a good one, it would make Vietnamese heart hurt again." We who are requiring Japan of penitence should listen seriously at this point of his utterance.

I thought that this was an interesting occurrence. The Vietnam War is still a touchy subject in America. You have a majority of the population that don't remember or care about it and others who remember it like it was yesterday.
