Al Gore, ex-vice president of United States, “We have to conserve the earth’s environment by Green Purchasing.”

He went to Korea to attending ‘International Conference on Green Purchasing’ …
“The more we know environment, the more we scared at it.”

Al Gore, ex-vice president of United States makes a speech at the opening ceremony of ‘the 3rd International Conference on Green Purchasing’ that is held at gyeonggi arts center on October 21.


“We can help the earth’s crisis according to how to purchase goods.” Al Gore who is active as ecoactivist and was ex-vice president attended International Conference on Green Purchasing. He gave his opinion saying “Now changes thinking about the earth’s environment.”

He visited gyeonggi arts center to attend International Conference on Green Purchasing held by International Green Purchasing Network (IGPN), International Council for Local Environment Initiatives (ICLEI) and emphasized the importance of ‘Green Purchasing’.

He said that “The more we know environment, the more we scared at it.” and “Now unparalleled events happened without previous notice and it means that people changes thinking about the earth’s environment” through keynote address.

He also said “Rapidly increasing population has also a big effect on the earth’s environment and it means the relationship between environment and a human is more important than the past.” and emphasized that “We have to apply method of purchasing goods and services to the earth’s crisis help.”

Al Gore who was a Novel Peace prize winner in 2007 and the 45th vice president of United States compiled a variety of environmental books like ‘Earth in the BALANCE: Ecology and the Human Sprite’, ‘QUO VADIS UBIQUITOUS’ and has a most effect on climatic change all over the world.

The opening ceremony starts an opening address of Yamamoto Ryoichi who is the president of IGPN and continues a welcoming speech of Kim Yong Su who is the mayor of Suwon and the ceremony’s organizing chairman, a congratulatory address of Lee Man Ui (the minister of environment), Kim Mon Su (a governor of gyeonggi-do) and Otto Zimmermann (a secretary-general of ICLEI).

Meanwhile, ‘International Conference on Green Purchasing’ that is opening to promote environment-friendly purchasing all over the world is held in Suwon in the third after Sendai of Japan in 2004, Barcelona of Spain in 2006 and takes on pre-Copenhagen before the 15th UNFCCC(United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change) opening in Copenhagen of Denmark in December.

International Conference on Green Purchasing that starts the opening ceremony and is held for 3 days joins 1,500 persons including governments of 70 countries, environmental organizations, businesses and the persons concerned NGO. This ceremony also devises ‘how to solve climatic change through green purchasing’.

On October 23, the last day of the ceremony, ‘the Declaration of Suwon’ that demands reduction of greenhouse gases emission and activation of green purchasing will be adopted through overall discussion.

    What kind of buying decisions does he suggest? How does one buy green?
