‘Beware’ of tattooing•piercing for the Hepatitis C!
It is revealed that Hollywood top star; Angelina Jolie is suffering from hepatitis C. We suppose that she was exposed to the disease in the past by dosing heroine with contaminated syringe, tattooing, or through piercing.
Hepatitis C is passed on via infected blood or body fluid that has been contacted with the hepatitis virus. Hepatitis A or B is accompanied with lethargy, dizziness, tiredness, or jaundice but in case of Hepatitis C, the biggest feature is silent infection. In the primary state, there are no typical symptoms; therefore we can only make a diagnosis of Hepatitis C by annual blood tests.
After acute infection, natural recovery is not well preceded so the rate of further progression into chronic hepatitis is almost 70~80% and 20~30% of this rate progresses into hepatocirrhosis. People with weak immunity progresses into chronic hepatitis, chronic hepatitis becomes the cause of the liver cancer.
In the past, high number of infection was through blood transfusion, but now days, strict condition for sanitation makes the infection through hemodialysis, and blood transfusion very rare.
Hepatitis C can be infected by using unhygienic equipment to tattoo, acupuncture, cupping, or piercing, as well as sharing patient’s razor, toothbrush, or contacting to the infected blood. Also homosexuals, drug addict, hemodialysis patients, people in the blood collecting room or medical personnel in the inspecting room has the higher possibility to get the disease.
In the case of hepatitis C, the virus changes its shape frequently, so there is no particular vaccination. Because of the poor circumstances we have, it is best to avoid the risks. We must take care of the personal items such as toothbrush, razor, and nail clipper, and keep off from piercing and tattooing through unhygienic equipment.
Furthermore, when there is a symptom shown in the liver, it is already damaged too much. Since liver is the organ that is hard to recover, regular blood tests and ultra sound to check the liver function in every 6 months is active way of prevent the disease.
Lee Jung-hun, section chief of the internal medicine in the northern hospital in Seoul explained that, “Hepatitis C has no vaccination, only careful concern of the body can minimize the possibility” and also “Unhygienic tattooing, piercing must be kept out, and when you get infected you must actively get drug treatments such as interferon or ribavirin ”

I think that you did more work that you had to. For this assignment, I stated that you only needed to do a summary (not paraphrase/complete translation. However, doing more than required is not a bad thing :-) I obviously didn't make this clear because I'm adding this same message to many of the postings.
ReplyDeleteThis is interesting, but it is only a rumor started by a tabloid newspaper. I wouldn't use terms like "revealed". While all of these manners can transmit Hepatitis C (as can unprotected sex), this is all just conjecture.
ReplyDeleteWhy did you repeat the title twice?
Your translation is pretty good. I'd suggest looking into rules for article usage, http://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/540/01/
