Transportation strike worsen

After bus field's strike on last thursday, Taxi industry also said that they estimated 2.5million taxies  are going to gather in front of National Assembly on December 7th to begin indefinite walk out unless pass a bill which taxi will be recognized as mass transportation  in a regular session.

Many verbal battle occured in internet among netizen about subjects such as "Are mass transportation's behaviors in return for civil inconvenience legitimate?"
Some said that these situation must be responsible for government ,another said that

But most people agree with  "Taxie's strike don't necessarily make uncomfortable because it helps traffic jam to clear"

Some taxi drivers posted on blog "it will bring confusion because there might be considerable demands for taxi with the year-end holidays approaching, and then, most citizen become feel that taxi as well as bus are important for our life."

Whatever argument pro and con about mass transportation's strike, it is needed compromise between bus and taxi, also asked speedy measure from government.

Bus companies to launch strike Thursday over taxi bill

Taxi drivers call for the passage of a bill to designate taxis as public transportation like buses and subway, which would provide more financial benefits to taxi drivers.  The controversial bill, which would recognize taxis as a mode of mass transit, unanimously passed throuh Transport and Maritime Affairs Committee last Thursday and now waits for approval in the parliamentary plenary session.  This bill will put the taxi companies and drivers under management, which means the government determines taxi driver’s salaries and other operational details.  The drivers will be guaranteed a stable income and the companies will be eligible for government compensation for losses, all of which would come from state coffers.

On the contrary to this, Bus drivers don’t want taxi to be a public transportation.  They believe that they have to share subsidies with taxis, receive less funding and allow them to use bus lanes, so the bus association would go on a nationwide strike by expressing strong opposition to this move if the bill passes.

The Fans are Mad at a Tardy Student, I-phone 5

Fed up with waiting for a long time...

Although it has been more than 2 months after Apple revealed I-phone 5, it never showed up in Korea, The old fans of Apple, who have loved Apple from I-phone 3GS, are changing their choices to other smart phones.

It is said that the people who waited I-phone 5 are moving to Galaxy Note 2 or Optimus G. I-phone 5 was expected to be released in the Korean market in the end of October or early in November. However, it is said that I-phone 5 might not be seen in Korea utill the next year, and the people are choosing other alternatives.

There are many 'good-bye posts' of I-phone users on the internet. A person said (s)he has bought a Galaxy Note 2. (S)he said, "there are many convenient functions and the battery is more durable." Another person said, " I wish I could have a chance to use the new I-phone but I could not wait any longer. So, I bought a Galaxy Note 2."

Optimus G has been chosen as the alternative as well as Galaxy Note 2. A person who bought an Optimus G recently said, "I bought an Optimus G after I had waited I-phone 5 for a long time. The transition of screen and the soft feeling of touch are very pleasant. The fine colour is exclusive!" Also (S)he mentioned, "I do not understand why I-phone 5 has not been released in Korea, a powerful IT country.'

It has been witnessed at many off-line dealer agencies that people changed their minds. A mobile phone dealer said, "As the release day of  I-phone 5 is getting late, the number of customers who are interested in Galaxy Note 2 are incleasing. Some of them purchased it right away on the spot because of its excellent grip and the ability of muli-tasking."

According to an related communication company, the openings of Galaxy Note 2 have incleased by 30% from the last month, and the maket share of LG Electronics has incleased to more than 20% because of the recent success of Optimus G.

 Three presidential candidates who will lead the next Administration of South Korea spoke that they will try to have the South-North dialogue so it is uncertain that North Korea will go through with launching missile put up with resist of international society.

 Some say, this action of North Korea is ‘Brinkmanship’ because they will ask for economic support which is cost of the relieve tension on the Korean Peninsula.

 Asahi newspaper reported that there is an opinion which is technically impossible to launch the missile on the seven months because it will take one to two year to finding the cause of failure and improve the airframe of missile of April which exploded in the air.

 But the newspaper also analyzed that it still has a possibility of military authorities of North Korea launch the missile to show off their existence.

Granddaughter stabbed a grandmother 90 times ··· She was sentenced 20 years

 Granddaughter and her boyfriend that brutally killed her grandmother were sentenced to a severe punishment. On November 23, Defendant Park(21·Female) and boyfriend Kim(25) were sentenced to 20 years, 17 years by chief prosecuting attorney.

Ms. Park asked grandmother for help and showed assaulted bruises, but Ms. Wu who had a disapproval with them said “Take a medical treatment and leave the my house.” Ms. Park was furious with her grandmother because she criticized Ms. Park and her mother, so she gave boyfriend a knife, a awl and asked to killed Grandmother. Boyfriend Kim immediately stabbed neck, face and whole body of grandmother Wu 90 times. Ms. Park stabbed dead grandmother to make sure her death.

 Since then, they stole grandmother’s 140,000 won and cell phone and ran away but they were arrested in 3 days.

 Justice department said “Their crime was cruel and against humanity  because they stabbed another weapon to make sure grandmother’s death and while she was dying, they sang a song”

Analysis of family names in DNA, follows the scent

The family names of criminals can be traced by a small modification in DNA testing, the mainstay of the modern scientific investigation methods, according to a TV program named 'Unsolved Cases' to be aired on 17th by SBS.


The episode, "DNA Tells the Truth"


At the scene of a recent homicide in Daejeon, 160 kilometers south of Seoul, the police found a jacket and a piece of toilet tissue stained with blood. They sent these evidences to the National Forensic Service (NFS), but the case seemed to fall into a mystery as no suspects have been sorted out in DNA profiling. Because, at that time, the only one thing left was an eye drop prescribed from an ophthalmologist, but there were thousands of people who prescribed the medicine.

Police, however, started investigating the case upon being informed by the NFS that the suspect might be a man who has a family name, Oh, and found him as the suspect. Experts of the NFS analyzed family names using DNA, the service said. This case is the first case that police have ever picked out a criminal in an analysis of family names using DNA.

The NFS says that they are able to trace the criminal through analysis of family names in DNA as Korea has traditionally maintained a patriarchal society, but it is still in the beginning stages.

In the episode, the producer also looked at DNA testing methods in Korean investigations of crimes, checking how much information he can get from a strand of hair in collaboration with the forensic experts from the service.

Why Not Change The University Festival?

This is a time of university campus festival. On university campuses, a lot of drinking parties are held and screaming and singing of drunken students are easily heard for the period of time. This drinking orgies are usually held until dawn.

 

On October 11, the smell of liquor filled the square of A university at 3:00 a.m. About thirty cart bars formed a “village” in the square. In the bars, students were drinking Soju and beer, and empty bottles were stacked up in the corner of the tents. Dozens of students were dancing to music, and some were doing deep petting.

 

Mr. Lee, a senior student of the school, said,

“Drinking parties finished early today because it is the first day of the feast. However, on the last day of the feast, we will drink till the morning, because we are not allowed to leave alcohol in the feast.“

      

B university was no exception. Drinking parties started at 5:00 p.m. We could see the students who were sleeping in the benches. Twenty civil complaints were filed by the residents during the feast because of the screaming and singing of drunken students.

In contrast to this atmophere, Dae-Kyung University, which is located in the Gyeongsan-si, held the university festival without alcohol at the very first.

 

Professor Jung, who managed the feast, said,

“We didn't prepare not only Soju and beer but also bar snacks such as whelk. Thanks to saving money paid for drinks, we could prepare a lot of different foods.

 

On the first day of the festival, there was no alcohol all over the campus. Small groups of students were enjoying beverage such as coke instead of Soju, eating chicken and Tteokbokki instead of bar snacks.

 

Up to last year, it was not like this. Until last year, there had been several cart bars were on display on campus, and cantests such as ‘The fastest beer drinker”, “Tossing off Soju.” had been main events. There had been full of drunken students all over the campus. Screaming and singing of druken had filled the campus. Futhermore, some had been rushed to the emergency room.

“The festival without alcohol” was planned by professors. And students responded positively to their suggestion. Last June, Mr. Kim, head of the planning office, and professor Park suggested the removal of alcohol in the festival. And the idea went through in a faculty conference. After that, professors introduced the idea to students in the class. They also got a forth students’ signature for the idea.

 

The university prepared many cultural events such as animal show, body painting program, musicals, dances for the festival. On the last day of the festival, there were students who major ballets, performing the plays.

 

Mr. Kim, a freshman of the school, said,

“I think there is no necessity for us to drink during the university festival. We can enjoy the performances with our schoolmates.“

 

 

The revised Law for the Promotion of Nation’s Health, which do not allow students to drink and sell alcohols on campus, will officially come into effect in April next year. Much has been said for and against about it. Some think that it is the great chance to change the university’s cacoethes, but the others are opposed to the law because drinking on campus is a romance for them.

Apple’s iPhone map to give Dokdo three names

"Apple has decided to label Liancourt Rocks when iPhone users outside of Korea or Japan search for Dokdo."

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade yesterday, Apple has informed the Korean government that it will use all three names to describe Dokdo in markets other than Korea and Japan, where it will be described as Dokdo and Takeshima depending on the country of service.

“Apple recently notified us that its new English map service under the new iOS 6 mobile operating system will simultaneously use the Korean, Japanese and Franco-English name 'Liancourt Rocks' to describe Dokdo,” the official told reporters yesterday. “We protested to Apple’s Korean unit that using all three names isn’t right because Dokdo is clearly indigenous territory of Korea and the new reference is unacceptable.”

In response to the Korean government’s protest, Apple Korea said, “We didn’t have a choice because to Apple, the Japanese market is a couple of times bigger than the Korean market."

With the reelection of US president Barack Obama, favorable Korean-American relations are expected to be maintained in the big framework. Despite forecasts of a super tight race, President Obama received considerable support and he was finally reelected.

The development of bilateral relations and North Korea were the two main issues. In his first four years in office, President Obama has acknowledged South Korea's leading role in Korean Peninsula affairs and paid attention to alliance concerns.
